An 8-year-old girl was expelled from her school after she reportedly told another female student that she had a crush on her.

Delanie Shelton, the mother of Chloe Shelton, explained to CNN how her daughter was immediately removed from the school playground after she told a girl student about her honest feelings.

Chloe, a second-grade student at Rejoice Christian School in Owasso, Oklahoma, missed her classes on that day and had to spend time in the principal's office, according to the mother.

The mother said she had to take Chole home as she was told by the administrators not to bring her back until Friday.

The school told Delanie that boyfriend/girlfriend relationships are not condoned on campus. Interestingly, the student handbook said nothing about expulsion on such grounds.

"Before I was even called, the vice principal told Chloe that the Bible says that women can only have children with a man. [The vice principal] asked me how I feel about girls liking girls and I told her that I see no issue with it," said the mother.

But what happened the next day was even more shocking.

The superintendent contacted Delanie and informed her that the school would be 'ending their partnership' with the Shelton family. This meant Chole and Delanie's 5-year-old son were both expelled.

The superintendent said their beliefs didn't align with the family when Delanie asked him for more specific reasons and information about the shocking decision.

Joen Pepin, the superintendent, declined to publicly comment, said a statement accessed by CNN.

"Due to privacy and other factors, it is the school's policy to refrain from public comments regarding any particular student or family," read the statement.
